Research indicates BSE can be passed on

to humans. The European Commission says the new evidence shows more than ever the importance of going ahead with the slaughter of over 100 000 cattle. For the moment that programme has been shelved by the Government. Commission officials are saying the new research vindicates their concerns about human health so hopes must be fading that the export ban might be eased soon.
