SETBACK FOR REBELS AS COMMANDER KILLED

The senior military commander of the rebel Taleban militia in Afghanistan Mullah Borjan has been killed in clashes close to the capital Kabul. A Taleban spokesman said heavy losses were suffered by the group in fighting in the eastern suburbs. According to the UN the capital is on the brink of falling to the militia. The fighting has forced the Red Cross to evacuate about 50 foreign diplomats and aid workers from Kabul.

ISRAELIS SEND TANKS INTO THE WEST BANK

The Israeli army has begun a special operation to quell further Palestinian unrest in the West Bank. The operation dubbed Cotton Field involves the deployment of tanks & attack helicopters in the area. The army will now use "all means possible to confront Palestinian threats an army source said. Earlier Israeli soldiers fired tear gas & rubber bullets at stone- throwing Palestinians in the West Bank.
