JUDGE RULES BRITISH GIRL SHOULD RETURN

A judge in South Africa has ruled that a girl snatched by her mother & taken abroad should be allowed to return to the United Kingdom. Nine-year-old Amy Kelland from Tiverton Devon was seized last month. But the judge at Johannesburg's supreme court decided Amy should be returned to her father. Mike Kelland & the girl are expected to be on their way back to Britain by plane this evening.

DIPLOMAT CONVICTED OF SMUGGLING PORN

Diplomat Robert Coghlan has been found guilty of smuggling paedophile material into Britain. Coghlan 54 was convicted by a jury at London's Southwark Crown Court. The court heard Coghlan built up a collection of 100 obscene videos during a four-year posting as first secretary at the British Embassy in Tokyo. Judge Gerald Butler QC remanded the suspended Foreign Office diplomat in custody overnight pending sentencing.

BRITAIN REFUSES TO CRACK DOWN ON TIGERS

Britain has said it will not clamp down on the poltical activities of Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels even if the Sri Lankan government bans the group. Foreign Secretary Malcolm Rifkind made the announcement during a visit to the Sri Lankan capital Colombo. He said under UK law only individuals and not groups could be taken to court. And he added that Britain allowed the activities of political groups that criticised their governments.

But the ministers meeting in the Irish Republic failed to resolve differences over the extension of the no-fly zone. FLAT OUT-TURN Shareholders in Photo-Me International have been warned not to expect any improvement in profits this year. The photo-booth manufacturer explained it was restructuring "certain sections" of the group to produce further growth. TRAINING SCHEMES BOOSTED BY £55m FUND

The Government has promised to set up a #55m fund to boost training schemes. The money matched by £50m private sector cash will go to Training & Enterprise Councils in England over the next three years. It will be spent on projects ranging from digital technology workshops to initiatives aimed at helping disabled people find work. 30 HURT AS AIR FRANCE JET HITS STORM

Thirty people - some possibly British - have been hurt as a Air France 747 jumbo jet was hit by a violent storm. The plane which was flying from Johannesburg to Paris was forced to make an emergency landing at Marseille. An elderly couple who were seriously injured by falling baggage were taken to hospital on landing. Others were treated for minor wounds & bruises. Britons were among the 203 on board but it is not known if they were hurt.
