FIVE KILLED AS CARGO PLANE HITS HOUSE

At least five people have died & 20 others have been hurt after a plane crashed into a farmhouse near Turin. The pilot & co-pilot of the Antonov transporter & another member of its 24 crew were killed when it crashed in San Francesco al Campo. Two people were found dead in the rubble. A third was seriously injured. The plane struck farm buildings before smashing into a house as it headed for Turin airport from Moscow.

BRITON DEAD AND 45 HURT IN COACH CRASH

A British woman has been killed & 45 other British holiday makers injured in a coach crash on the island of Majorca. The coach carrying 57 Britons one of whom was a representative from a tour company skidded & overturned. It happened after a Volkswagen Golf slid into its path & hit the front of the vehicle a police spokesman said. All the passengers are thought to have stayed at the Aquamar hotel. One is thought to have been seriously hurt.

GREEK CYPRIOT SHOT DEAD BY TURKISH ARMY

Turkish Cypriot forces have shot dead a Greek Cypriot civilian who crossed into Turkish part of the island via the UN buffer zone. Petros Kakouli 50 was collecting snails & put up his hands after warning shots Greek Cypriot radio said But Turkish forces said he had ignored their warnings to stop. Turkish Cypriot leaders have called for fresh talks. Three Greek & one Turkish Cypriot have been killed in recent clashes.

MALAN ACQUITTED AS COURT CASE COLLAPSES

Former defence minister General Magnus Malan has been acquitted of all charges of murder in South Africa's biggest apartheid-era "dirty war" trial. The trial was centred around the 1987 death squad massacre of 13 blacks in KwaMakhuta near the port city of Durban The judge said there was no proof that the military had planned the killings. Two other co-defendants were also found not guilty adding to the six policemen acquitted of the murders yesterday.
