BUSH WARNS IRAN OVER NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Iran faces universal condemnation if it continues to pursue a nuclear arms programme President Bush has said. The UN's nuclear watchdog earlier said its inspectors in Iran had found additional traces of weapons-grade enriched uranium at a second site. It comes a month before a deadline expires for Iran to prove it is not developing nuclear weapons. Mr Bush said Iran would be on the agenda when he meets Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.

Presidents Bush & Putin have sent warnings to Iran & North Korea over nuclear weapons & proliferation. In talks at Camp David the US & Russian leaders had agreed to persuade Iran to meet its obligations on nuclear non-proliferation Mr Bush said. President Putin said a "clear but respectful signal" would be sent to Iran on the matter. Mr Bush said the two nations called on North Korea to end irreversibly & completely its nuclear programme.

IRAN REFUSING TO HALT NUCLEAR PROGRAMME

Iran says it is not prepared to give up its nuclear programme despite international pressure for it to prove it is not developing atomic arms. "Abandoning nuclear activities or uranium enrichment is not something that Iran is ready to compromise on " a foreign ministry spokesman said. However he insisted Iran was not developing nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency prove it is not developing nuclear arms

BUSH SEEKS FOREIGN HELP IN TERROR FIGHT

"All nations of goodwill should do their part" in combating terrorism US President George Bush has told Americans in his weekly radio address. Mr Bush's call came at the end of a week of diplomacy that failed to yield pledges of troops or money to bolster the US's efforts in Iraq. "In the struggle between terrorist killers & peaceful nations there is no neutral ground " he said. "All nations must join in confronting this threat where it arises."

CHECHNYA'S PRIME MINISTER "POISONED"

The acting president of Chechnya is seriously ill in hospital after apparently being poisoned. Officials said Anatoly Popov was flown to Moscow for treatment after the incident which comes a week before the troubled Russian republic's elections. Chechen separatist rebels have vowed to increase attacks in the run-up to the poll which Moscow says is a crucial step towards a political settlement. Years of armed conflict in Chechnya have left thousands killed.
