WAR CRIMINALS ACTIVE IN SERBIA ` MoD

Two indicted war criminals from the Bosnian conflict are involved in the Serb oppression of Kosovo Defence Secretary George Robertson has said. "Belgrade recruited General Radko Mladic & paramilitary leader Arkan to command units to massacre & rape Kosovo Albanians " he said. Arkan was indicted for a 1991 massacre of 250 men from a hospital in Vukovar. Mladic was accused of ordering the killing of 10 000 men in Srebrenica.

MACEDONIA REFUSES MORE KOSOVO REFUGEES

The Macedonian defence minister has refused to build more camps for Kosovo Albanian refugees accusing the West of reneging on pledges to house them. "The international community has not respected previous agreements under which 92 620 refugees should have been in third countries " he told newspapers Nicola Kljusev said camps may expand but new arrivals must go elsewhere. The country of 2.3m with an Albanian minority has received 130 000 refugees.

THOUSANDS POURING OVER KOSOVO'S BORDERS

Refugees are continuing to pour from Kosovo into neighbouring countries. The Red Cross says up to 5 000 people crossed into Macedonia at three border posts last night. A further 100 000 are said to be heading for the frontier. Up to 600 people an hour are estimated to be arriving in Albania. A spokesman for the UN's refugee agency said expulsions from Kosovo which had slowed down in the last two weeks were now resuming "with full force".

300 MANAGEMENT JOBS AXED AT SAINSBURY'S

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is to cut 300 jobs at its London head office after disappointing trade figures. Eighty senior managers are among the 300 staff to be axed. The company is also to reorganise management of its stores to help boost its performance. Sales rose by only 2.2% in the last year while improving slightly recently Meanwhile insurance group United Assurance is cutting up to 1 000 jobs from its doorstep sales team.
