Serbian RTS television has broadcast a live soccer match in Belgrade between Partizan Belgrade & AEK Athens. Proceeds from the game are to go to aid victims of Nato attacks the TV said. Before the game a banner was unfurled across the pitch by the players from both teams which read in English "Nato Stop The War". The game is seen as a gesture of support for Yugoslavia by Greece which despite its unease about the air raids has given them logistical support.
Nato has told Yugoslavia it must allow the showing of western news broadcasts or it will see its radio & TV facilities come under attack. Nato military spokesman Air Commodore David Wilby said Yugoslav radio & TV were being used as "an instrument of propaganda & repression". He said Nato was demanding the showing of western material for six hours a day He also told reporters there had been 400 Nato sorties in the last 24 hours.
The RAF says its Harriers have stepped up their attacks on Serbian ground troops in Kosovo. Group Captain Ian Travers Smith said pilots who had successfully bombed Serb units this morning were told to prepare to fly back for combat. The first wave hit vehicles in a compound. The second returned to base without entering enemy territory. Nato commanders decided against sending a third wave of Harriers
Russia has hinted it may bolster its armed forces in the wake of continuing Nato "aggression" against Yugoslavia. Defence Minister Igor Sergeyev said the world was in a state of "virtual partition" with "Nato assuming the role of an international gendarme". Marshal Sergeyev said the Russian armed forces would probably not be expanded beyond the current 1.2m level. But he said combat units would be strengthened "as a priority".

Nato is to send 8 000 ground troops to Albania to provide "military support" to the humanitarian aid effort. Alliance spokesman Jamie Shea said Operation Allied Harbour would get under way by the end of next week. Fourteen Nato nations would contribute troops to the plan he said. Mr Shea added that Nato was concerned that Kosovo Albanian refugees trying to leave the province seemed to have been prevented from doing so.
