MILLENNIUM Work on a £16m Millennium Bridge across the Thames in London will be launched this week by John Prescott ` the pedestrians-only suspension bridge is due to open in April 2000. BODY Children have found a badly decomposed body of indeterminate sex in undergrowth in Milton Keynes Bucks. The grisly find was unearthed near the town's Groveway greyhound stadium. ABLAZE Five fishermen have been rescued from their boat after it burst into flames 80 miles north of the Butt of Lewis in the Western Isles.

SERBS HOLDING HUMAN SHIELDS SAYS UNHCR

The UNHCR has said reports of Kosovo women & children being used as human shields have "substantial foundation". The UN refugee agency said people from the town of Prizren were being held by Serb soldiers last week. Sixty men who had been with them were allowed to cross the border into Albania said the agency. The UNHCR said hostages were being held on the top floor of a building which was being used to store ammunition.

Home Secretary Jack Straw has stressed Britain's commitment to receiving more refugees from Kosovo. "The United Kingdom stands ready to receive some thousands of refugees from the region " he told the Commons. Priority would be given to the most vulnerable & to those people with family links in the UK Mr Straw said. His comments followed the arrival of the first 161 refugees mainly women and children at Leeds Bradford airport
