BELFAST FAMILY SURVIVE GRENADE ATTACK

A woman & her 14-year-old son have escaped injury following a grenade attack at their north Belfast home. It is understood that damage was confined to the roof of the porch of the house in Ligoniel. RUC detectives say the motive for the attack which happened last night is still unclear. Another woman & her friend escaped when two homes came under a petrol bomb attack in Dunmurry south Belfast.

FURTHER ATTACKS ON SERBS TO COME ` NATO

Nato's attacks on Yugoslavia so far are only "a fraction of what is to come" Supreme Allied Commander in Europe General Wesley Clark has said. The Alliance was cutting off oil to Yugoslavia from Montenegro he said. The supply of military equipment & fuel to Serb forces in Kosovo was also being hit said General Clark. "Step by step bit by bit we are cutting off his ability to sustain his forces in Kosovo " he added.

HUNDREDS DESERTING SERB ARMY SAYS COOK

Foreign Secretary Robin Cook has claimed the Serb army is suffering "several hundred desertions a week". The Serb authorities were now having to go from door to door to press gang new recruits to fill the army's ranks he also claimed. Britain's Chief of the Defence Staff said a fifth of all Serb army barracks have been attacked by Nato. Seventy Serb jets had been destroyed Sir Charles Guthrie added.

Liberationin France is pessimistic

about the prospects for peace in Yugoslavia. It says the criminals will remain unpunished & continue their work in Kosovo while the Nato machinery intensifies its bombardments of Yugoslav infrastructures. The paper believes time is on President Milosevic's side & against those whom Nato says it wants to help. The allies who met in Washington cannot have been unaware of this it concludes.

SECOND GROUP OF KOSOVO REFUGEES ON WAY

The next Kosovo refugees to arrive in Britain are expected later this week the UN refugee agency has confirmed. Around 160 are expected to land at East Midlands airport including 18 people in need of medical treatment. About 160 refugees from the region mostly women & children arrived in Leeds at the weekend. The UNHCR said a similar number were likely to arrive this week because the same Macedonian aircraft would be used.

of the Nato summit which has just ended in Washington. Belgium'sLe Soirdescribes it as a summit of war & of peace dominated both by conflict & its aftermath. TheInternational Herald Tribune complains that the 50th anniversary meeting was thin on sinew & bone. It did not set out the precise military process by which Yugoslav forces might be extracted from Kosovo it said.

DRASKOVIC THREATENS PROTEST IN TV ROW

Yugoslav Deputy PM Vuk Draskovic has threatened street protests against the takeover by the Serb military of a TV station controlled by his party. Serbia "is not the property of Mr Milosevic" he told BBC Radio 4. Mr Draskovic said he was "ready to stand up to Mr Milosevic". But he warned that "Nato bombs are killing not only Serbs in Serbia but also the democratic wishes dreams of the democratic forces of Serbia".
