HOSPITAL SENDS HOME NAIL BLAST CHILD

A 23-month-old boy who escaped brain damage after surgeons removed a nail from his head following the Brixton bombing has left hospital. He is now well enough to leave said a Great Ormond Street Hospital spokesman. Police are probing claims that a right- wing group planted the bomb. They will examine closed-circuit film taken near a phone box in south-east London where a man claiming to be from Combat 18 said it planted the device.

ETHNIC CLEANSING SPREADS TO MONTENEGRO

Yugoslav forces appear to have extended their ethnic cleansing operations against the Albanians to villages in Montenegro Nato has claimed. Spokesman Jamie Shea said it was a "new and distressing" development. Like Kosovo Montenegro is part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia but has been trying to stay out of the conflict Mr Shea said 600 000 refugees had fled Kosovo in the last month & a further 100 000 were expected.

PAPER SAYS US JETS WARNED ABOUT CONVOY

An RAF pilot reportedly warned US planes not to attack a refugee convoy killing scores of people fleeing Kosovo The pilot saw there were civilian vehicles amongst Serb military traffic according to The Express newspaper. Military sources said he warned the F- 16 pilots but they attacked anyway. Defence Secretary George Robertson told BBC Radio 4 Yugoslav forces were to blame for the deaths for having mixed civilian & military vehicles.

SERBS "USING TEENAGERS AS BLOOD BANKS"

Nato says Yugoslav paramilitary forces are snatching teenage Kosovo Albanian boys to use as human shields & "blood banks" for Serb war casualties. About 700 boys have been taken during the conflict in Kosovo according to "reliable" accounts from refugees. Nato spokesman Jamie Shea said the tally of executions of Kosovo civilians now stood at more than 3 500. "Kosovo's killing fields will be on our minds for years to come " he said.

FIRST KOSOVO REFUGEES ON WAY TO UK

The first Kosovan refugees to come to the UK as part of the UN's evacuation plans are to arrive within the next few days the Home Office has said. It announced that 120 mainly women & children were expected this week. The Government was also expecting a request from the UN to take another 18 medical cases with 121 dependants later Under the plans people will arrive through a variety of airports & will go to reception centres "across the UK"

HALF OF BEST YUGOSLAV JETS "DESTROYED"

Nato has now destroyed 50% of Yugoslavia's best fighter planes ` the MiG-29s ` Tony Blair has claimed. A quarter of the Yugoslav army's MiG-21s had also been hit he said. Five tanks four armoured vehicles & 20 other military vehicles were attacked in the latest Nato raids the Prime Minister said in Brussels. A troop assembly area & army headquarters & airports were also targeted he told a news conference.

JAKARTA TAKES BLAME FOR TIMOR VIOLENCE

Indonesia accepts the blame for yesterday's clash in East Timor in which up to 30 people died a presidential aide has said. But Dewi Fortuna Anwar said the Jakarta government remained committed to the UN-brokered peace process. "It's our responsibility because we are the only ones here " Mr Anwar said. Pro-Jakarta militiamen rampaged through the regional capital Dili. East Timor is seeking independence from Jakarta.
