BOYS IN TEXAS CHARGED WITH MURDER PLOT

Five students in Texas have been charged with conspiring to kill pupils & teachers in an alleged plot similar to the Denver rampage. The boys all aged 14 were being held on juvenile charges of conspiracy to commit murder the authorities said. They were also accused of conspiracy to commit arson & manufacture explosives Officials believe they had been planning the attack on Danforth Junior High School in Wimberley since January.

APACHE ATTACKS SOON SAYS NATO GENERAL

Nato chief Wesley Clark has said Apache attack helicopters will soon go into action against Serb targets. The Nato supreme commander's pledge coincides with the arrival in Albania of seven more Apaches to join the dozen or so that flew in on Wednesday. Asked when they would go on the attack he said: "It won't be too long." He added that President Milosevic knows he is losing the war with the Nato air campaign "right on schedule".

STRIKES GO ON FOR "AS LONG AS IT TAKES"

Nato attacks on Yugoslavia will go on for "as long as it takes" US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has said. "We have objectives not deadlines " Mrs Albright told the BBC's Breakfast with Frost. But she said she hoped Kosovo Albanian refugees would be able to return to their homes by the start of winter. Speaking on the same programme Robin Cook said there was no "date on the calendar" for the use of ground troops.

WE'RE UNITED AND WINNING SAYS ALLIANCE

The Serb army is becoming increasingly demoralised while Nato is united in its determination to continue with its campaign the Government has said. Defence minister John Spellar said if President Milosevic was expecting a split among Nato leaders meeting in Washington he would be disappointed. The air campaign was proving effective and its impact was growing inexorably. It was having "a real effect upon Milosevic's military machine" he added

BLAIR VOWS TO PROTECT SERBS' NEIGHBOURS

Tony Blair has told Serbia's neighbours that Nato forces will step in to protect them if they are threatened by Yugoslav President Milosevic. Other Nato leaders accepted the British initiative at the alliance's 50th anniversary summit in Washington. Mr Blair said: "One by one the leaders of the front-line states asked Nato to make sure we see this action through." Mr Milosevic is "a pariah in his own back yard" a Nato spokesman added. "
