HEALTH TRUST SOLD SKIN FOR MoD RESEARCH

A health trust has apologised to plastic surgery patients for selling surplus skin for chemical weapons research without proper explanation. ( 0 Salisbury Health Care Trust sold breast and abdominal skin to the Porton Down establishment for £17 000 a year. Patients signed a consent form but it did not fully explain the purpose was to develop drugs & protective creams. A trust statement said it was more "appropriate" to ask patients directly.

MINISTER SMOKED CANNABIS AS A TEENAGER

A minister who has responsibility for drugs policy has said he tried cannabis twice when he was a teenager. Home Office Minister Charles Clarke said he tried the drug while on holiday in the United States. Speaking on Question Time on BBC1 he said he did not enjoy the experience. He said he was not deeply harmed by it but that he would have been if he had consumed it in large quantities over a significant period of time. !

HOSPITALS TOLD TO CLEAN UP THEIR ACT

Scottish hospitals have been ordered by the executive to clean up their wards to protect patients against infection. The order came after some hospitals' standards of decontamination were found by a working group report to be "below acceptable" levels. The move is part of a drive to enforce national standards of cleanliness & infection control across Scotland. Health trusts & boards must now appoint a senior manager to take charge of the clean up operation.
