SCIENTIST DEFENDS £34m BADGER CULL PLAN

The scientist who drew up a £34m plan to cull badgers has defended it after critics argued it is badly implemented. Sir John Krebs said the cull of up 10 000 badgers was essential in finding out if they transmit TB to cattle. Concerns about the programme were raised in an independent audit report. Dr Elaine King from the National Federation of Badger Groups claimed the plans were too complex & grandiose to work.

ASTEROID LANDING TO MAKE SPACE HISTORY

Scientists are preparing to land a space probe on an asteroid for the first time. The NASA craft Near Earth Asteroid Rendez-Vous has been orbiting the asteroid Eros for one year taking photographs & studying its geology. It will have to negotiate inconsistent gravitational pull before landing. Eros passes close to earth & scientists are keen to learn how to avoid possible future collisions.
