CANADA Prime Minister Tony Blair is set to reaffirm Britain's commitment to the transatlantic alliance in a speech to Parliament in Ottawa. GERMANY Pop star Robbie Williams was knocked off stage at Stuttgart's Schleyerhalle stadium by a man with psychiatric problems. Williams was unhurt & the man was later arrested. IRISH REPUBLICNorthern Ireland Secretary Dr John Reid has begun his first official visit to Dublin. He is due to meet Irish foreign minister Brian Cowen.

DISEASE PROMPTS LIVESTOCK MOVEMENTS BAN

A Britain-wide ban has been imposed on all livestock movements for seven days in the wake of the growing foot-and- mouth disease crisis. The Ministry of Agriculture's emergency measure took effect at 5pm. Agriculture Secretary Nick Brown said it was better "to go through pain now" to get the situation under control. Earlier it was confirmed that abattoirs and livestock markets in England & Wales are to close for a week.

FARM TESTED FOR FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE

A pig farm in Aberdeenshire has been sealed off as a suspected case of foot- and-mouth disease is investigated. It is one of several farms which have been tested north of the border after the outbreak in England. No Scottish cases have been confirmed. Banks Farm at Fyvie has been sealed off while test results are analysed with no livestock movement in or out. It is owned by Aberdeen-based Grampian Country Food Group ` one of the biggest pig producers in Britain.

PHONE POLL REVEALS HIGH LEVELS OF CRIME

England & Wales have the second highest number of crime victims in the Western world according to a survey. The phone poll of 2 000 people in 17 countries revealed that 26% of people in England & Wales were victims of crime during 1999. Australia topped the poll with 30% while Scotland & Northern Ireland recorded 23% & 15% respectively. The survey was compiled by academics in the Netherlands.

£76 000 COURT BLOW FOR PORSCHE DRIVER

A Porsche driver has been ordered to pay back £76 000 to his insurers in a dispute over the theft of his car. Norwich Union had refused to pay out after Richard Hayward's Porsche was stolen at a filling station. Mr Hayward had left the keys in the car though the immobiliser was on. The Court of Appeal reversing a High Court ruling said Mr Hayward of south Wales had moved too far away from the car to prevent a theft.

NO WIZ FROM OZ POSTCARD PUZZLE SOLVED

The Royal Mail has tracked down the rightful owner of a postcard sent to Aberdeen from Australia more than a century ago. The postcard was sent from Queensland in 1889 but only reached its Scottish destination two days ago. The intended recipient of the postcard was a Miss Wardrop of 32 Carden Place. Alison Britts from New South Wales contacted the Royal Mail to say she is the granddaughter of Colin Wardrop who sent the card to his sister Minnie.
