McALISKEY LOSES FIGHT OVER EXTRADITION

Terrorist suspect Roisin McAliskey has lost a High Court bid to have a request for her extradition declared unlawful. Two judges rejected claims that the move was unlawful because Germany would not extradite its own nationals. Germany does not extradite its citizens but does try them if they are accused of crimes abroad a judge pointed out. Ms McAliskey is wanted in connection with an alleged IRA attack on British Army barracks in Osnabruck last year.

TEENAGER FOUND MUTILATED COURT TOLD

Schoolgirl Naomi Smith was found murdered & mutilated under a playground slide by her father & her best friend a court has been told. The 15-year-old had left her home in Ansley Common in Warwickshire to post a letter. Edwin Hopkins 20 of Ansley Common denies murdering the girl. The prosecutor told Birmingham Crown Court a swab of his saliva matched that found on Naomi's body.

CHANNEL 4 PAYS £17 500 LIBEL DAMAGES

A retired US Federal Agent has accepted #17 500 in damages from Channel 4 which linked him to the Lockerbie bombing. Michael Hurley who worked with the US Embassy in Cyprus took Channel 4 to court over the May 1995 programme which he said implicated him in the bombing. Channel 4 alleged one of Mr Hurley's agents had been a passenger on the flight & the bombers had swapped bags His lawyer said it suggested the PanAm blast was due to his negligence.

ISRAELI PREMIER RECEIVES DEATH THREATS

An extreme right-wing group has issued death threats against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The move follows the withdrawal of Israeli troops from most of the West Bank town of Hebron last week. The Jewish Revenge Organisation sent statements to Israeli media calling Mr Netanyahu a traitor. It warned he would suffer the same fate as Yitzhak Rabin the premier who was murdered by a Jewish extremist in 1995.

HINDLEY TO CHALLENGE SENTENCE RULING

Lawyers for Moors murderer Myra Hindley plan to challenge any ruling by the Home Secretary that she should spend the rest of her life in prison. The Home Office has refused to comment but the decision is expected to be confirmed to Hindley next week. Home Secretary Michael Howard is said to have ruled that the 56-year-old should never be released. Myra Hindley has spent 30 years in prison for the child killings.

JUDGE BACKS NEW SCHOOL LEAGUE TABLES

A High Court judge has cleared the way for controversial new primary school league tables. Mr Justice Harrison rejected claims that Education Secretary Gillian Shephard had acted "unreasonably" in wanting to publish the tables. A small Essex village primary school and the National Association of Head Teachers had challenged the move. They argued publication would mislead and damage pupils' reputation.

COST OF HUNT FOR ZOE REACHES £250 000

The cost of the police operation to find missing nine-year-old Zoe Evans will reach £250 000 by Friday. Wiltshire Police said £200 000 of the sum was spent on police overtime. The hunt for the Warminster schoolgirl has been on for 12 days. Yesterday her mother Linda 28 issued a statement saying she had nothing to do with Zoe's disappearance. She had been questioned by police along with Zoe's step-father.
