CREDIT CARD ERROR WARNINGS AMID SALES

As post-Christmas sales begin there is a warning that people risk being overcharged on debit & credit cards. The Association of Bank Customers claims growth in non-cash transactions has led to more cash card errors. It says most mistakes go unnoticed as only one in five customers look at their statements thoroughly. In a report it cites the case of one woman shopper who was overcharged for goods by more than £500.

SEVEN KILLED IN ALGIERS CAR BOMB BLAST

A car bomb has killed seven people in a suburb of Algiers just days after eight died in the capital in a similar attack Sixty-eight people were injured in the latest blast according to reports. The Moslem fundamentalist Armed Islamic Group (GIA) has in the past admitted carrying out such attacks. About 60 000 people have died in Algeria since 1992 when the authorities cancelled an election that radical Islamic groups looked set to win.
