AFGHANISTAN The ruling Islamic Taleban militia movement says it will take part in talks about a ceasefire provided participants do not try to block its administration of Islamic law. CAMBODIA Joint premier Hun Sen warned he will shoot down any airliner returning the exiled Prince Norodom Sirivudh. He was accused of plotting to assassinate Hun Sen. IRAN Spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says he believes the US will attack Iran in reprisal for the bombing of a base in Saudi Arabia in June.

JURY IN LEAH BETTS DRUG CASE SENT HOME

The jury in the trial of a teenager accused of buying the Ecstasy tablet which led to the death of Leah Betts has been sent home for the night. Steven Packman 18 of Laindon Essex denies being connected with the supply of Ecstasy to Leah & a girlfriend. Leah died in November last year after collapsing into a coma as a result of taking one Ecstasy tablet. The jury will resume its deliberations tomorrow morning.

LABOUR ATTACK ON BSE AND ERM POLICIES

Labour leader Tony Blair has launched a two-pronged attack on the Government. Mr Blair challenged the Prime Minister to produce the deal reached with the EU to lift the ban on British beef. He accused the Government of "serial incompetence" in the affair & he said compensation claims would top £3bn. And speaking after the EU summit he said Tories were more divided than ever over a single currency with 147 Tory candidates coming out against EMU.

S AFRICAN CHILDREN DIE IN POOL TRAGEDY

Two South African children swimming in a public pool were sucked to their deaths by a powerful pool filter a newspaper report has said. An 11-year-old boy in the town of Mnandi vanished under the surface near the powerful water recycling valve the Sunday Independent reported. Another child was sucked down shortly afterwards a shocked eyewitness said. It is believed that the lid covering the suction filter had been removed.

WILLIAMS F1 BOSS ON MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

Formula One team chief Frank Williams and five other people are to go on trial charged with manslaughter over the death of driver Ayrton Senna. Mr Williams' lawyer said a trial date in Italy had been set for February 20. He said the first hearing would be before a local judge in Imola where the Brazilian driver was killed in a crash during the San Marino Grand Prix. The crash happened on May 1 1994.
