OFFICIALS RELEASE £7m "ESTRADA" CASH

Officials have released over £7m in cash seized on suspicion that it was being taken out of the Philippines by its disgraced former President. "No violations" had been committed by the two banks shipping the money from Manila Airport to Hong Kong they said. A private watchdog group had suggested former President Joseph Estrada might be trying to transfer his wealth abroad Mr Estrada was forced out of office after his trial on corruption charges.

GULF AIR CREW FOIL BID TO HIJACK PLANE

The crew of a Gulf Air jet en route from Hong Kong to Abu Dhabi have foiled an attempt to hijack the plane. The co-pilot & the chief steward were wounded while disarming the hijacker an Iraqi armed with a knife. The Airbus 340 which had stopped in Bangkok & which was carrying 262 passengers & 14 crew landed safely at Abu Dhabi. No passengers were hurt. The motive for the hijack attempt remains unclear.

ARMED HIJACKER FORCES FLIGHT DIVERSION

An armed man claiming to be an Iraqi supporter of Saddam Hussein has been ovepowered after diverting a plane with the US ambassador to Yemen aboard. Two shots were fired but the 91 passengers on board the Boeing 727 on an internal flight within Yemen were not injured. The crew managed to overpower the hijacker who was holding a pistol. Most passengers including US envoy Barbara Bodine disembarked at Djibouti
