RENEWED EFFORTS IN NON-GM MEAT MARKET

Britain's major supermarkets are stepping up efforts to eradicate all genetically modified ingredients from eggs poultry fish & meat. Tesco has urged its suppliers to use non-GM feed for livestock. Sainsbury's says it sells £1m of non-GM meat a week There have been problems finding the 2m tonnes a year of proven GM-free soya needed to feed all UK livestock. Asda says it has now found enough non- GM soya to supply the whole UK market.

NORTH KOREAN NUMBERS STATION OFF AIR

North Korea has suspended short-wave broadcasts of "numbers stations" where female announcers read sequences of numbers to be decoded by spies abroad. The broadcasts were aimed at the South and were known to be for Communist spies there Seoul KBS radio said. Short-wave listening groups in South Korea & Japan said broadcasts of the number code groups had not been observed since the end of last year. Many countries including Britain use the method to contact agents overseas.

FIRST MEMORIAL DAY TO MARK HOLOCAUST

Political & religious leaders are to attend a service to mark Britain's first Holocaust Memorial Day. It is being held exactly 56 years after Allied troops liberated the Auschwitz Nazi death camp at the end of WWII. Memorial days are also being marked in Germany Italy & Sweden. Tonight's service of remembrance is taking place at Methodist Central Hall in Westminster. It will be attended by survivors of the Holocaust.

You can move to the next day or to the previous day by using the Date Navigation Bar.


On any particular day, you can see what else happened on that day by using the "What Else Happened on this Day" navigation bar. This will take you through all the available data for the selected day.


Alternatively, you can get a list of some of the main items featured in a particular month by clicking on the MONTH tab above and you will find a clickable list of the month's events from which to choose.


Om the main panel you will see the current note in the centre and the keywords associated with it in the tabs at the top of the panel. Clicking on any of these tabs with show the preceding and next notes which share the same keyword. By using the Keyword Navigation Bar, you can follow a keyword through the entire database. At any time you can change the keyword to another by clicking on the appropriate tab above the centre panel.
