ONE DEAD AFTER CAR BLAST IN NORTH SPAIN
A navy cook has been killed & two passers-by have been injured in a car bomb blast in northern Spain. No group admitted planting the bomb but reports said it bore the hallmarks of Basque separatist group Eta. The bomb exploded as the man started his car near a military compound in the Basque city of San Sebastian. Eta has admitted being behind the deaths of 23 people since it ended a 14-month truce in December 1999.

SOLDIER DIES AFTER SHOOTING AT BARRACKS
A soldier who was shot at his barracks earlier this week has died in hospital. Corporal Anthony Green 25 from Carlisle Cumbria was a chef with the Royal Logistics Corps attached to the 1st Battalion The Royal Scots. He was shot as he walked through Shackleton Barracks Ballykelly County Londonderry. The Army has confirmed the shot was fired from inside the camp. Police are investigating his death & have already questioned one man.

FIRST MEMORIAL DAY TO MARK HOLOCAUST
Political & religious leaders are to attend a service to mark Britain's first Holocaust Memorial Day. It is being held exactly 56 years after Allied troops liberated the Auschwitz Nazi death camp at the end of WWII. Memorial days are also being marked in Germany Italy & Sweden. Tonight's service of remembrance is taking place at Methodist Central Hall in Westminster. It will be attended by survivors of the Holocaust.

JAPAN Male nurse Daisuke Mori 29 has been charged with the murders of 10 patients through lethal injections in a Tokyo clinic between February 1999 & December 2000. CHILE Former dictator Augusto Pinochet has been admitted to a hospital in Santiago as an emergency case after feeling unwell. He was taken by helicopter from his home in Los Boldos.25th January 2001

SITCOM STAR "STABLE" AFTER HEALTH SCARE
Actor John Inman star of sitcom Are You Being Served? is in a stable condition after three days in intensive care a hospital spokesman said. Mr Inman 65 was admitted to London's St Mary's Hospital with severe breathing difficulties on Wednesday. The star who played salesman Mr Humphries for a decade was moved out of intensive care on Friday. He is now in a general ward where he is expected to stay for some time.

US TEEN JAILED FOR "WRESTLING" MURDER
A Florida boy who said he accidentally killed a six-year-old girl while Lionel Tate 13 faces a life prison sentence without parole for the attack on Tiffany Eunick in July 1999. A Fort Lauderdale court heard Tate's traffic police officer mother had been baby-sitting the girl at their home. Tate punched kicked & stomped on the girl as his mother was sleeping.

MAN NAMED AFTER MOTHER AND SONS STABBED
Police investigating the stabbing of a mother & her two young sons yesterday have named a man they are seeking. The 36-year-old woman & her children aged five & seven were attacked at their home in Ilfracombe Devon. Their injuries were "not life-threatening". A man was seen running away towards nearby cliffs but police found only a slipper in the area. They now want to speak to David Parker 44 who is 5ft 11ins with brown hair.
