ESTRADA UNDER OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION

Filipino prosecutors have launched an investigation into former president Joseph Estrada for allegedly plundering millions of dollars while in office. The announcement came as Mr Estrada's replacement Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo puts together her cabinet & tries to ease divisions in the country. Months of turmoil ended this weekend when Mr Estrada was forced to quit. Thousands took to the streets of Manila to demand a change in government.

MUSEUM AND GALLERY ENTRANCE TO BE FREE

Entrance fees to all national galleries and museums in England are to be scrapped the BBC has learned. The Government is to announce the move after Culture Secretary Chris Smith won a concession from the Treasury. Previously institutions which charged entrance fees would have faced high VAT bills when opening for free. The move safeguards institutions such as the National Gallery which feared it would have to introduce charges.

CHHOKAR WITNESS IS GUILTY OF CONTEMPT

A witness in the murder trial of Indian waiter Surjit Chhokar has been found guilty of contempt of court. Ronnie Coulter 32 was found guilty at the High Court in Paisley after Lord Bonomy said his evidence was "evasive". The judge said Mr Coulter had been a crucial witness in the trial of Andrew Coulter 19 and David Montgomery 23. The pair were found not guilty of murder last year. Ronnie Coulter had been cleared of the murder at a previous trial.

SKILLS SHORTAGE "REACHES RECORD LEVELS"

Shortages of skilled workers have reached record levels in parts of British industry a new report claims. More than two out of three firms were being hit by a shortage of skilled staff according to a survey of 550 organisations by employment group Reed. The service sector reported record levels of skills shortages. The survey said firms in the Thames Valley East Anglia Northern Ireland and the Midlands were the worst hit.

Mobile phone company Orange is offering investors shares to support its stock market flotation. The firm says shares will be priced from £7.35p to £8.62p when it floats 15% of its business on the stock market in two weeks.
