TEEN RAPIST DETAINED FOR SIX YEARS

A 13-year-old who abducted & raped a teenage girl at knifepoint has been detained for six years & placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life. The boy who sat in the dock with his mother stopped his 15-year-old victim as she went to see friends & produced a knife Cardiff Crown Court heard. He marched her through fields in Fairwater Cardiff before raping her. Since the attack in April the girl had become a "semi-recluse" the judge said

KILLER'S BROTHER JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS

The brother of a former casino croupier who murdered & dismembered his wife has been jailed for seven years for helping to dispose of her body. Elliot Quy of Southport Merseyside helped his brother Mitchell dispose of his wife Lynsey's head & hand. A Liverpool Crown Court judge said Quy 22 embarked on a campaign of deceit by concealing the murder for 18 months. Mitchell Quy 25 was jailed for life for the murder last week.

POSH TELLS OF AIRPORT LUGGAGE THEFT

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham has told a court how luggage containing a lock of her son Brooklyn's hair was stolen following a trans-Atlantic flight. Mark Oliver 20 of Stanwell west London denies stealing the suitcases after the singer returned to Heathrow from Miami in April last year. Isleworth Crown Court heard a family photo & clothes were also inside. Mr Oliver faces a further two charges of handling stolen goods.

FIVE YEARS JAIL FOR DRINK-DRIVE KILLER

A drink-driving businessman has been jailed for five years after killing a 25-year-old woman & her unborn baby in a hit-and-run crash. Andrew Drummond's Vauxhall careered into the Vespa scooter Sharon Long was riding on the M20 in Kent last April. Drummond 35 of Sevenoaks who had drunk twice the alcohol limit left her for dead Chelmsford Crown Court heard. Miss Long who was four months pregnant died two days later.

PAPER CAN PUBLISH EX-MI6 MAN'S STORY

The Sunday Times does not have to seek clearance to publish parts of a book by disgraced ex-M16 agent Richard Tomlinson the Appeal Court has ruled. Once the material had been published to such an extent it was in the "public domain" clearance "was not needed". The Attorney General's appeal against publication centred on whether the book was sufficiently in the public domain. Tomlinson jailed in 1997 for breach of official secrets now lives in Italy.

PAEDOPHILE CHARGED AFTER ARSON PROBE

A Welsh paedophile whose sentence was cut after a judge learned vigilantes had torched his home has been charged with starting the fire. Roger Gardener 56 was found guilty of sex attacks on girls in a St John's Ambulance group run by his nurse wife. On hearing of the fire Cardiff Crown Court cut his sentence out of sympathy. Police have now charged him with arson after a probe into the blaze at his home in Fleur-de-Lys near Blackwood.

MINISTERS TO LOSE SCOTS SENTENCING ROLE

Laws are being drawn up in Scotland to end politicians' right to decide if prisoners serving life should be freed. The Executive says it is meeting the needs of European human rights law. Under current procedures the final decision on whether to free inmates in Scotland is made by justice ministers. In future a judge will set a "punishment period" on sentencing after which time the parole board will decide on suitability for release.

KILLERS TO GET LIFE SENTENCES REVIEWED

All prisoners serving life for murder in Scotland are to have their sentences reviewed in the wake of the Human Rights Act the executive has said. About 500 killers will have their cases heard by a judge who will decide on the "punishment period" to be served. An executive spokeswoman stressed the review would not automatically lead to shorter sentences. The European Convention on Human Rights outlaws government ministers deciding when convicted killers can be released.

MURDER PROBE AFTER PENSIONER'S DEATH

Police have launched a murder inquiry after the discovery of a pensioner's body in Kirkcudbright yesterday. Archibald Jeffrey 82 was found on a riverside path just a few hundred yards from his home. Police have not said how he died but a post mortem examination has confirmed he had been assaulted. Mr Jeffrey's body was found on a path beside the River Dee on the outskirts of Kirkcudbright close to where he is thought to have lived..
