TWINS "SAFE AND WELL" IN COUNCIL CARE

Flintshire County Council says the twins at the centre of a custody battle are safely in care after they were removed from their adoptive parents. The American baby girls were taken from a hotel in Mold where Alan & Judith Kilshaw were staying. Council chief executive Philip McGreevy said an emergency protection order was a "considered" response to events. Real mother Tranda Wrecker wants the girls adopted via the internet back.

A couple who adopted twin babies from the US over the internet have denied claims that they practise witchcraft. Judith & Alan Kilshaw said News of the World claims that Mrs Kilshaw was a black magic witch who prowled round a baby's grave were "all lies". She said: "I am not a witch. They are saying anything they want to say about us. We are ordinary people." The couple from Buckley north Wales are fighting for custody of the girls.

KILSHAWS CONFIDENT OF GETTING CUSTODY

The couple who adopted twins via the internet but saw them taken away by social services say they are confident of winning custody of the baby girls. Alan & Judith Kilshaw of Buckley north Wales are due to attend a hearing in Birmingham tomorrow. The babies adopted after the couple paid a US broker £8 000 were taken into care by Flintshire County Council. Mrs Kilshaw denied newspaper reports she had been involved in witchcraft.

TWO DEAD IN CIVILIAN HELICOPTER CRASH

Two people have died & three others have been injured in a crash believed to have involved a civilian helicopter. The accident happened near Enniskillen in County Fermanagh. The ambulance service said three people were taken to the Erne hospital in Enniskillen.

NEW ALZHEIMER DRUGS BACKED BY WATCHDOG

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence has given its backing to three new drugs which delay the progression of Alzheimer's Disease. People with mild to moderate forms of the disease should be given Aricept Exelon or Reminyl on the NHS in England and Wales the Government body said. The drugs had previously been denied to some patients on the grounds of cost. It is thought the decision could cost

ADOPTION LAW CHANGES TO BE SPEEDED UP

The Government is to speed up new laws to stop couples adopting children abroad without proper checks in the UK. The move follows the controversy over American twins bought by Alan & Judith Kilshaw via the internet. Under the new rules couples bringing adopted children home without proper UK approval face three months in jail. BP "TO CLOSE 50 PETROL STATIONS IN UK"

Oil giant BP Amoco is to close 50 petrol stations in the UK the Sunday Times has reported. The 50 sites are among 5 000 stations worldwide being sold to raise £1bn for the company to pay for a rebrand. BP is removing references to its UK roots ` it was started by an Anglo- Persian firm in 1909. A green yellow and white sun will replace its shield. The firm said this would underline its expansion into international business.
