COURT

A man accused of killing Julie- Ann Osborne in Belfast has been remanded in custody by city magistrates Andrew Robinson 22 is due to appear in court again on January 8. DEATHA man is being questioned over the death of a 33-year-old man at a New Year's Eve party in the Harcliffe area of Bristol. A post mortem examination will be held later.

POLISH CAPITAL GETS TIMELY FACELIFT

Warsaw has marked the New Year by unveiling what the mayor says is the world's tallest clock tower. The clock faces are 540 feet above the street and can be seen 3 miles away. The building housing the clock is the city's biggest and some say ugliest landmark: the towering Palace of Culture left over from Communist days. Locals say the best view of Warsaw is from the top of the tower - but only because that is the only place in the city you can't see the Palace from.

New Year revellers in the centre of Odessa were treated to a mass brawl between six Grandfather Frosts as Father Christmas is known there. Two Grandfathers were earning a little extra by taking pictures of people in front of Christmas trees on the city's most famous street Deribasovskaya. was " Radio Russia reported. "The Santas tore each others' beards off & had to be separated by police."

US AND ISRAEL SIGN WORLD COURT TREATY

The US & Israel signed a treaty to create an international war crimes court as the midnight deadline neared. The court would be the first permanent institution to try charges such as genocide & crimes against humanity. Sixty countries need to ratify the treaty before it can come into existence ` so far 27 have. The US hesitated before deciding to sign the treaty which has been criticised by American conservatives.

If you enter the date, say 12th May 1998, into the Google search engine above you will be able to select the pages which have notes of the news on that day. You can then use the Note Navigation Bar to scroll through all the data for that day.


You can move to the next day or to the previous day by using the Date Navigation Bar.
