Former Tory Chancellor Kenneth Clarke has warned his party not to launch a "witch hunt" against pro-Europeans. Writing in the Independent on Sunday Mr Clarke fears such action would lead to "short term electoral consequences and longer term political damage". A moderate Israeli minister has said a peace agreement with the Palestinians may be reached before President Clinton leaves office in January. Justice minister Yossi Beilin was speaking after a trip to Washington where he briefly met the President.
