Police are hunting the killers of the 10-year-old who bled to death after being stabbed in Peckham south London. The Rev Wesley Daniel of Peckham Methodist Church told worshippers the death could be a springboard for action The community was struggling to come to terms with the killing he said.

SEX-CHANGE VICAR RETURNS TO THE PULPIT

A vicar who had a sex change operation has been given a standing ovation by her congregation in Wiltshire. The Rev Carol Stone previously known as Peter is thought to be the first C of E vicar to have the operation. Taking her first service back at St Philip's Church in Upper Stratton Swindon she said she was delighted by the support she had received. A woman was escorted from the service after criticising the transformation.

MURDER POLICE LAUNCH HUNT FOR KNIFEMAN

Police in Ayrshire have launched a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed to death in broad daylight. The 24-year-old was attacked as he walked down Main Street in Fenwick near Kilmarnock just before midday. He died later in hospital. The victim's brother who was walking with him at the time was not hurt. Police are appealing for information. They say the attacker ` a man with a knife ` was driven away in a grey coloured car.

TWO ARRESTED AFTER FRENCH BOY KILLED

French riot police were called in to break up rival gangs in Grenoble after the body of a 15-year-old boy was found in the basement of a block of flats. The teenager of North African origin had been missing since Wednesday. His throat had been cut. Trouble flared & a number of vehicles were set on fire. Youths then pelted police with stones. Police have arrested two youths in connection with the boy's death.

DOME FIGURES LOWEST SINCE SITE OPENED

The number of people visiting the Millennium Dome last month was the lowest since the attraction opened. The site drew 387 103 visitors in November compared to a record 657 624 in October. They were the worst figures since January's 366 420 visitors. Organisers of the site in Greenwich south east London said the new figures exceeded estimates by over 100 000. They predicted the site would reach its target of 6m visitors for the year.

TANZANIA At least 30 people have died

in flash floods in the northwestern city of Mwanza near Lake Victoria. Tanzania normally gets some rain between October & December but rains have been poor over the last two years. GERMANY Rallies in support of & against rightwing extremism have taken place in the northern town of Dessau but police kept protesters apart. Some 800 people took part in an anti- rightwing rally in a park while 200 rightwingers from neighbouring cities marched through the south of Dessau.
