WEDNESDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS AT WESTMINSTER
A Bill ensuring disabled pupils are not failed by schooling is to be introduced in the next parliamentary session. Tony Blair said the Government was determined that "all children whatever their background should get the chance to fulfil their potential in life". The news came after comments to the Prime Minister by Labour MP Tom Levitt. He said that despite Government success in the field of disabled rights there was still a "gaping hole" in the law.

WITNESS SAW DAMILOLA BEFORE KILLING
A woman saw 10-year-old Damilola Taylor walking alone towards an alleyway minutes before he was found bleeding to death on a stair police have said. A female witness spotted the boy walking past her home in Cronin St Peckham at about 4.45pm on Monday. At 4.49pm emergency services were called after he was found on a stairwell on the North Peckham estate. Police plan to interview two children seen with Damilola at a library earlier

THIEVES BREAK IN WHILE MADONNA SLEEPS
Burglars broke into pop superstar Madonna's London mansion & stole the keys to her fiance's Range Rover. The 42-year-old singer her boyfriend Guy Ritchie 32 and the star's two young children were asleep upstairs. Police said an investigation was under way after a robbery in Notting Hill early on Friday morning. The burglary came weeks after Madonna said she preferred living in London to Los Angeles because she felt safer.

WEDNESDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS AT WESTMINSTER
Cabinet Office Minister Ian McCartney firmly rejected calls from both Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs to consider decriminalising cannabis. He warned the move would be a "slippery slope" to an increase in the use of harder drugs. Veteran Labour MP Tony Benn thanked MPs for their kindness in the wake of the death of his wife Caroline. He spoke the day before he was due to celebrate 50 years in the Commons.

ISRAELIS SHOOT TWO PALESTINIANS DEAD
Israeli soldiers have shot dead two Palestinians in separate incidents in the West Bank & Gaza Strip Palestinian hospital officials said. The deaths raised to at least 289 the number of people mostly Palestinians killed in nine weeks of bloodshed. Palestinians have taken part in services at holy sites in Jerusalem ` the first Friday prayers of Ramadan. Israel deployed extra police but only minor scuffles were reported.

BANNED CATTLE HORMONE SEIZED 22 HELD
Spanish police have seized large amounts of a banned hormone generally given to cattle to boost milk production & arrested 22 people. Police at Madrid airport seized 800 doses of bovine somatotropin (BST) which arrived from Mexico & 801 boxes of the same substance from Switzerland. The cargo is thought to have originated from South Korea Mexico & the USA. Twelve of those held were arrested previously for allegedly distributing illegal substances for cattle.

NO MORE JAIL FOR DRUGS HOSTEL MANAGERS
Charity managers jailed last December for allowing drugs at a Cambridge hostel for the homeless have been told they will not have to return to prison. The Court of Appeal reserved its decision in appeals by Ruth Wyner & John Brock against their convictions. It said the sentences of five & four years respectively were "far too long". The pair were jailed for allowing heroin at the hostel & not informing police due to a confidentiality policy.
